What is UX design?

User experience (UX) design is a loose umbrella term that generally refers to steps taken to enhance a user's experience with a certain application or website. UX design covers traditional human-computer interaction (HCI) design and it is primarily concerned with improving the accessibility and usability of an interface. UX design focuses on the analytical, back-end, and technical aspects of a program. UX and UI design are closely interrelated and are essentially two sides of the same coin. 

Difference between UI and UX design

In simple terms, UI design focuses on the front-end of the machine and UX design focuses on the back-end processes. For example, in the context of a human body, UX designers would work on bettering the functions of all important life supporting organs and UI designers would work on improving the outward aesthetics of the human body. UX and UI design would function in tandem to create the perfect human. UX builds a product and UI provides the user-facing aspects of the product. 

What do UX designers do?

UX developers or designers aim to make the life of a user easier than what it is. For example, if the application is an e-commerce website, UX designers are focused on streamlining and improving the buying process from the moment you put items in the website's cart. They are concerned with ensuring that the user is able to pay easily and enter all relevant information in a simple manner. In this scenario, the designer's goal is to ensure that the website's functionality does not deter a user from completing the purchase. 

The expertise of UX designers is critical to making the web a more user-centered or user-friendly place. They develop and design the sequence of interaction between the product and the user. By support and satisfying user goals, they ensure that the requirements of the systems and machines are met. Detailed information of users sourced from analytics is crucial to improving the experience of the user. 

Elements of UX design

The primary elements involved in UX design include user research, information architecture, interaction design, accessibility, usability, and various related disciplines. These elements are used as the basis for wireframing, development planning, product testing, prototyping, and other critical parts of UX design. An essential characteristic of UX design is to be on the same page as the client and early websites on the Internet were famous for being developer friendly rather than user friendly. The widespread use of data analytics has resulted in the development of enhanced user experience across the web. 

A wireframe is one of the most well-known deliverable aspects of UX design. A wireframe refers to a rough outline for the layout and structure of an application or website. Most UX designers begin their role wth wireframes and building entire applications on top of a wireframe. A UX designer may need to be a jack of all trades and the role is very multi-faceted and demanding. The role of a UX designer is dependent on the company the UX designer works for.
